Family Photoshoot FAQ’s

Why are family photoshoots done outdoors?

I currently don’t have a studio setup that can accomodate a large group of people.  Outdoor photos are the best bet for groups of people, plus we can get really fun and creative with outdoor shoots!

When should I schedule my family photoshoot?

If you have a specific day you’d like to pin down, it’s best to schedule at least a month in advance.  If you’re a little more lax with the timing, you can schedule about 2 weeks out. So if your family is only going to be together for one full day, you’ll need to make sure to schedule at least a month away from that day to ensure your time slot.

What time of day is best for a family photoshoot?

Typically I do photoshoots outdoors either early in the morning (around 7 AM) or around sunset.  I can and will schedule at other times if you have specifications I need to work around. Just let me know ahead of time so we can choose something that will work for both of us.

Do you know of any good locations?

Sure do!  You can check out the “locations” tab for some ideas, or email me at  I am totally open to other ideas as well, so if you have something specific in mind, just let me know!  I am willing to travel up to 40 miles outside of Oshkosh without travel compensation. Travel compensation for any further miles is set at the federal norm, which right now is $0.54 - so I charge 50 cents per mile (after 40).

What shots are included in the family shoot?

I take pictures of the family group and pictures of the parents.  If you’d like me to take further photos of the children in the family, including the children together and individually, you’ll need to add on the sibling photoshoot package as well.  Please note that this will add time to the overall session.

Do you take photos of extended families or large groups of people?

Sure!  My family package is for 4 people.  You can add on people to the package at $10 a person.  There is special pricing for extended family groups and you can email me for more information about that at  Otherwise you can visit the “package” tab for specifics about the family photoshoot package.

Is there anything you need to know ahead of time?

I’ll want to know the number of people involved and the ages of all the participants.  I can better plan my time and shot list that way. Also, if you have any specific ideas for locations, props, etc, you can let me know ahead of time so I can plan accordingly.

**Please email me at if you have any questions or concerns!
